Technology in Education

It is undeniable what technology does in our lives. Advances in technology have a notable impact on the further improvement of our society and educational system.

Technology, as they say, is the game-changer. It has brought significant upgrades to the teaching and learning process. Through technology, we can bridge students inside the four corners of the classroom to the world.

Like any other tool, technology should only be utilized when it is appropriate to the situation at hand. The term “educational technology” has changed significantly recently, describing any tool that is used to enhance learning. Here are some roles of technology in education:

  1. Give teachers opportunity to design meaningful learning experiences
With the use of technology, teachers have the luxury to choose from a variety of materials to be used inside the classroom.
  2. Enable personalized learning or experiences that are more engaging
    and relevant
Learners have access to numerous amount of materials and resources that would best fit their learning styles and purposes for learning
  3. Help organize learning around real-world challenges
and project-based learning – using a wide variety of digital learning
devices and resources to show competency with complex concepts and
    content
Instead of asking learners to research in class, they can upload their works online and share it with the world. They can also look for solutions and answers to a problem they have to work on.
  4. Make learning move beyond the classroom and take advantage of
learning opportunities available in museums, libraries, and other out-of-school settings
The 21st Century classroom is not restricted inside the four corners of a room. It is a vast, interactive and interconnected space where learners can better learn, may it be physical or digital.
  5. Aid learners pursue passions and personal interests
With the help of technology, learners are not just limited to what the school and teacher can offer. They have the freedom to look for tutorials, how-to, and self-help on the internet.

With all these things that technology can offer, it is imperative to know that it can never replace good teaching. Technology should only be supplementary to a teacher teaching the actual lesson to the students.
