Technology as Mindtool

Mindtools are technology that allow learners to stimulate, organize, manipulate, visualize and reflect on data, information and objects.

They are also considered as knowledge building tools that allow learners to think critically about the lesson they are studying.

These mindtools are essential to promote better learning for students. They also provide teachers with numerous ways of dealing with a certain lesson inside the classroom.

Here are a few examples of mindtools:

1. Visualization Tool
This allows the learners to picture, or represent how various phenomena operate within different domains.  By using visualization tools teachers are able to prepare better visuals for their learners that promotes retention.

Most commonly used visualization tool:

2. Simulation
Provide a simplified version of phenomena, environments, or processes that allow students to interact with, or manipulate and observe the effects of those manipulations. Simulations also gives an avenue for learners to experience a certain phenomena without wasting resources, avoiding hazards and even saving lives.

Here’s an example of a simulation.

3.  Digital Storytelling
Enables learners to reflect, represent, narrate and communicate their views, facts and information. Since most learners nowadays are visual, they tend to get attracted to moving objects and music going together at the same time.
