As 21st Century teachers, it is important that we keep ourselves updated with the most current and effective tools for teaching. A way to to this is to make use of the Internet where you can find almost anything you might need for the improvement of the teaching-learning process.
Here are some of the functions that the Internet and the World Wide Web can do for us:
- Communication
The internet has continuously been upgrading to provided teachers with numerous ways of connecting to their student. We don’t have to physically be inside a classroom for learning to take place. We are a click away from our students!
Here is an example of how to use the internet for student communication.
When I was still working in the BPO Industry, we would often have meetings and calibration, but we do not meet in person. We use the internet to discuss things through online classrooms like this one.

It was very convenient and economic to use for we do not waste money, time and effort for traveling.
- Inquiry
The Internet’s basic purpose for many people is of course for information hunt. We always refer to Google when we do not know or we are uncertain of something. However, many people do not know how to properly use the internet for looking for the answer to that question.

Personally, I turn to internet whenever something is unclear for me. The vast number of materials on the internet has really helped me get through many difficult tasks.
- Construction
Today, teachers should not be tied-up with paper and pen activities. Since we are training our students to be 21st Century students, it is imperative that we use tools that will promote the 21st Century Skills. An effective way of doing so is using the internet to create interactive tasks for students to complete online.

I’ve used Kahoot before in an activity in our cluster and it did not even make me sweat. It was very easy to use and to implement.
Surely the Internet has given as a lot of advantageous things to use for teaching. Just keep in mind to make sure we use these things in moderation. Know our limits and always consider the resources that you and your students have.
